“Through the use of Asentria’s SNMP-Link, we can now remotely survey our entire network, including our security, power and alarm equipment. Their products are seamlessly integrated into our network, and help us avoid expensive labor and installation costs.”
Jim Wemette, Manager of Systems Engineer at Burlington Telecom

Remote Monitoring & Remote Network Management

Asentria specializes in TeleManagement (data collection, alarms and remote access for telecom applications) and Remote Site Management (monitoring, accessing and controlling SNMP, non-SNMP and environmental conditions). Asentria data collection hardware is used in situations where a company wants to ensure accurate and unfailing storage of telephone call records for call accounting purposes.

An application example is Call Accounting, the practice of recording and analyzing telephone call records and extrapolating from them financial and related information: cost of call, cost of equipment handling call, cost of labor employed in handling call, call correlation to project/department/account etc. Managers use this information to bill clients for phone costs and staff time used in making calls, to monitor toll fraud (illegal use of phones), for verification of phone bills and more.

Call data collection devices are called data buffers. These devices are typically located near a computerized phone system, and reliably store call data, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

When the data collection device (also called a data buffer) sends stored data to a computer via a phone line or network connection at set intervals or on command, it is said to be "pollable." A pollable buffer means that the connection between the buffer and the computer does not have to be "always on." The connection can be open at defined time intervals, saving cost and resources. Asentria’s TeleBoss products are pollable buffers that come in a variety of sizes with a variety of enhancements for every telecommunication manager's needs.

Asentria also manufactures remote network management software and hardware to improve a network manager's ability to monitor and manage remote site environmental conditions and equipment. We provide a complete software solution for environtmental monitoring as well as a powerful computer network alarm monitoring system to detect problems quickly. Asentria’s SiteBoss family of products enable a manager at a central operations facility to have greater visibility into remote equipment sites to monitor, access and control every aspect of the remote locations.

A remote Network Management System (NMS) is a comprehensive system of equipment used in remote monitoring, controlling and managing a data communications network. With a NMS in place, a network manager is in control of all aspects of his or her network's operation, and can proactively diagnose problems and manage assets.

SNMP Monitor - Network Management Systems normally utilize "SNMP" - Simple Network Management Protocol. A protocol in general is a set of rules governing the format of messages that are exchanged between computers and people. More specifically, a protocol consists of a specific set of rules, procedures or conventions relating to format and timing of data transmissions between two devices. SNMP itself is a way to adjust settings, monitor and manage equipment within a network.

With an NMS, a network manager can receive alerts of any problems, computer crashes or equipment lockups on their computer screen, or the NMS can send a message to a pager or create a variety of other alerts.

With Asentria TeleBoss and SiteBoss products, a network manager can extend this remote monitoring and remote device management and control capability to parts of his or her network environment that are not "SNMP-compliant" - that is, they do not operate on the same set of rules. These two product lines allow a network manager to receive these same kinds of alerts for events such as high temperature, excessive water, an open door or window, via their existing NMS. Very often, network managers, Internet Service Providers, and large corporations have networks that extend to remote locations, such as a building across town or a remote site overseas. With the TeleBoss or SiteBoss, they can receive an alert via an Internet connection (meaning no phone line charges) on events in their equipment rooms far away, and even execute such actions as turning on a fan or remotely rebooting a locked computer. Asentria products are versatile and dependable, and extend confidence and security to companies who need to buffer (store) call data or manage distributed remote equipment sites.
